My wife calls out to her, so she stops to look at us with a mischievous grin. She is heading for the water heater again. There is something about the knobs that fascinate her. I tell her to come back toward us, so off she goes running to the back door. Outside papa, outside? The rain is pouring, but she loves playing out in the garden. No flower is safe from her grasp or demand. 2008-05-15 13:01:41 PDT http://technorati.com/search/aninspectorslog.wordpress.com/2008/05/15/playing-in-the-rain-creating-garden-spaces/ 15 17 When Chicks Start to Become Chickens http://thegreatergreen.typepad.com/weblog/2008/05/when-chicks-sta.html http://thegreatergreen.typepad.com/weblog/2008/05/when-chicks-sta.html Thu, 15 May 2008 13:00:10 -0700 If you look back at my first post about our new chicks, you will certainly see how incredibly adorable they are. I suppose it is a good thing indeed that they do not stay that way, as it would be all the more difficult to eat those cuddly little bundles of fur. But the truth is they don't stay that cute. See the photo? They are quickly becoming hens and roosters, which means soft fluff is shed and splotchy, sporadic feathers start popping out all over, sometimes in patches, sometimes individu 2008-05-15 13:00:10 PDT http://technorati.com/search/thegreatergreen.typepad.com/weblog/2008/05/when-chicks-sta.html 4 4 Soil Drainage Management Tips http://www.greenhousecatalog.com/weblog/gardening/soil-drainage-management-tips/ http://www.greenhousecatalog.com/weblog/gardening/soil-drainage-management-tips/ Thu, 15 May 2008 12:50:31 -0700 Managing your soil drainage can mean the difference between a bountiful crop of healthy, vibrant plants and average or sickly vegetation. Soil drainage management requires the proper mix of water, aeration, and nutrients. Soil Drainage Tips The natural drainage tendencies of any garden soil can be tested by digging a hole the size of a gallon jug. Fill the hole with water and check back at intervals to see how much water remains after one, two and four hours. A simpler, slower time. Can I plant any other root crops then? A: Beets, radishes, parsnips, rutabagas, and turnips share a love for cool weather, and growing them when temperatures are cool is the secret to sweet, crisp roots. Start sowing spring radish seeds as soon as the soil can be worked, and plants will be ready for harvest in as little as 3 weeks. Fast, even growth is the secret to a good crop. You can even attach a half basket to a wall or fence. Students will frequently start their own seedlings as a great learning process. Small flowers adorn the plants.
