After weeks of waiting and then dealing with a shipping snag, this afternoon a new Lutheran addition to my Libronix Digital Library System arrived at my doorstep. I finally got my copy of Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions on CD-ROM (The 2nd Edition)! Earlier this month, Concordia Publishing House (CPH) released the Libronix version of their new Reader’s Edition of the Book of Concord. Since I just got it today, I’ve only been able to check out a few of its amazing too 2008-04-21 14:39:16 PDT http://technorati.com/search/shepherdstudy.wordpress.com/2008/04/21/concordia-the-lutheran-confessions-digital-edition/ 5 7 Work, culture, politics and the world: A Confessional Lutheran perspective http://www.anglican-mainstream.net/index.php/2008/04/20/work-culture-politics-and-the-world-a-confessional-lutheran-perspective/ http://www.anglican-mainstream.net/index.php/2008/04/20/work-culture-politics-and-the-world-a-confessional-lutheran-perspective/ Sun, 20 Apr 2008 09:13:36 -0700 ‘Work Is Our Mission: Why the godly baker’s most significant task is baking good bread." Around 2002, students in the confessional language studies at Martin Luther College (MLC) launched a new quarterly journal of confessional language studies named Studium Excitare, which as they explained, “is a Latin phrase that, literally translated, means ‘to arouse zeal.’ This phrase is employed in early Lutheran church writings (e.g. Heidelberg Disputation) and summarizes the purpose of our publication.” Interest grew among the students as German and Lat 2008-04-16 07:51:18 PDT http://technorati.com/search/shepherdstudy.wordpress.com/2008/04/16/studium-excitare-re-launch/ 5 7 Take Issue With the Issues Cancellation http://heresyhunter.blogspot.com/2008/03/take-issue-with-issues-cancellation.html http://heresyhunter.blogspot.com/2008/03/take-issue-with-issues-cancellation.html Thu, 20 Mar 2008 05:02:56 -0700 Let's not let this matter die out, as I'm sure the LCMS is desperately hoping it will. This could be make or break for the confessional wing of Lutheranism. The things the LCMS has been introducing, such as Ablaze and the Church Growth Movement, are the very things I was trying to escape when I joined the Lutheran church and I'm sure that's the case for many people. Yesterday quite a turbulence was caused by the decision by LC-MS leaders to terminate the Issues, Etc. program from KFUO’s programming. The program was discontinued and for a time the archives were inaccessible as was the entire KFUO-AM web site. Today the following explanation is posted: For programmatic and business reasons, the decision was made this week to discontinue the "Issues, Etc." program on KFUO-AM. I admit that I am deeply distressed by this action and do not understand why such a thing would have taken place. (I didn’t have it marked on my calendar, did you?) It was the 173rd birthday of Dr. Gustav Adolf Theodor Felix Hönecke (Hoenecke) One could easily argue that Hönecke was the father of confessional, biblical Lutheranism in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. When he joined the Wisconsin Synod in 1864, it was still an American version of the German unionistic mis 2008-03-10 04:00:33 PDT http://technorati.com/search/shepherdstudy.wordpress.com/2008/03/10/dr-adolf-honecke-25-february-1835-3-january-1908/ 5 7 Ack! However, he promises that his amanuensis will pick up at least a bit of his slack (he did, after all, provide the best short response to The Golden Compass I have yet to read). Perhaps we can at least talk (or bribe with fatty, salty, or sweet snacks) the doc into an occasional guest post or a position on a team blog. First, the Lord commanded Jeremiah to say this to Judah: “How can you say, ‘We [Jews] are wise, for we have the law of the Lord,’ when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely? (NIV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)” Is Jeremiah saying that someone corrupted the Ten Commandments? But the Commandments don’t seem to be corrupted in any way. If they were, wouldn’t it show in the Bible?
